London Fashion Week is well underway and the collections for SS17 have got us a little excited for the year ahead, but as the days get shorter and the air gets crisper its time, to start thinking about updating our favourite autumn/winter staples.

There’s something about a winter coat, woollies and accessories that can take your jeans and top combo from oblivion to VIP. Here are some of our favourites!

CAPES

There is allot to love about a winter cape, once associated with strident midwives and the Scottish Widows woman, the cape redefined the fashion crowd with AW14 runways showcasing Ralph Laurens sumptuous cashmere capes and Ellie Saabs uber glamorous collections.

From runway to high street the cape is firmly a wardrobe staple. Teamed with knee high boots for daytime look, or a pair of skinnies and stilettoes for the evening, this combination creates an effortlessly chic look, with minimal effort.

There are a million different capes to choose from varying in lengths and fabrics, no matter your shape or size, somewhere out there is a cape with your name on it!

TROUSERS AND ROLL NECKS

We love the sleek silhouette created when teaming a simple polo neck with a pair of trousers. Tuck it into a high waisted pair to accentuate your waistline and forgo looking frumpy and hello fashionista!

This trend is blissfully practical and easy on the wallet, as you are bound to have one tucked in the back of your wardrobe somewhere. To get the look right, wear it as a layering piece to put some distance between this look and the wholesome schoolgirl catalogue image look. Biker jackets, blazers and full-length coats all fit the bill.

So simple, yet so effortlessly stylish. Think Jackie Onassis from the 1970’s striding out of Coleridge’s sporting a black roll neck under a fabulous trench!

FINISHED WITH FUR

Wearing layers not only keeps you cosy in the winter, but it can also be a way to add some variety to your clothes.
One of the not so secret ways to layer this season is with a fur collar, be it detachable or draped around your neck, the fur neck is instant glam that makes a statement like no other.
